When Interlux Intergrip is mixed as recommended and applied according to instructions the results are remarkable. The powdery silicate mixes easily, forms a colloid, and stays in solution without constant stirring. I mixed it in spar varnish and applied it in one coat on the deck surface with a brush on top of stained wood. It dries relatively quickly and can be walked on within a day. The surface may appear slightly milky (it adds an opacity to the finish), and brush strokes will show. The result feels good on bare feet, lets the beauty of the wood show through, and solves the slippery surface problem.

I tried a trial mix of the Intergrip mixed with epoxy, as per the recommended ratio, but found this to be quite slick after curing. I also tried broadcasting the Intergrip on top of the epoxy top coat. This works very well and was easy to achieve a good looking surface with the use of a small salt-shaker. The resulting surface has excellent grip but is not too hard on knuckles or knees.

Great non-skid, easy on bare feet. Blends into paint, if you don't overcoat with same color, will darken paint slightly, not a big deal for me, it show where the non-skid is or isn't.

I rolled this on with Interlux Perfection using 1/4" knap 6" long contractor rollers from Sherwin Williams which are my favorite. I used 1oz per 250ml which produced a perfect surface. The areas where I tried stretching the paint by putting it on thin did not turn out well, the non skid clumped and looked uneven. Once I figured out to really flood the paint on and roll it over and over to spread it evenly it turned out perfect - it needs quite a lot of paint to stay in solution while you spread it around. I mixed and poured it in a 750ml batch for a 32' sailboat deck, I don't use paint trays for horizontal surfaces, just pour right out of the mixing cup. Stir vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds before each pour and pour about every 3 feet.

I routinely use Intergrip with the Brightside Enamel on the floor and deck areas of wooden boats I build. Simply add it to the paint at the manufacturers recommended rate, mix well, and apply to the surface with a foam roller. Only place as much of the paint/intergrip mix in the roller pan as you will use within a few minutes. The roller will give the most consistent finish, although it can be applied by brush. Do not tip out after application, as this will only make a mess of the finish. Apply this non-skid finish as the final coat, you may want to apply one or two coats of regular paint or primer first.

I just finished repainting my non-skid. The original non-skid was painted and had a sponge type pattern to provide the non-skid where the paint would clump up to provide a rough surface. The original paint was very faded and worn so a new coat was necessary. I used the Interlux Brightside Seattle Grey paint with the Intergrip mixed into the paint. The first application was a little difficult because I put too much Intergrip in the 1/2 quart of paint. I put about 1/8 of a can in the 1/2 quart of paint and although the test results were good on a painted stick, the actual application on the boat created clumps of non-skid that were not uniform in appearance. I was rolling the paint and non-skid on with a 4in dense foam roller. After waiting a day to sand the surface for a second coat, I decided to cut back on the Intergrip for the next 1/2 quart of paint. I only added 8 tablespoons on Intergrip to this batch of paint. It rolled on much better and smoother this time. It also makes a difference to finish off the painted area using long roller strokes in the longest direction possible for the deck area you are painting. This produced a uniform appearance and a great final coat. I was satisfied with the results after 2 coats of paint.
