TotalBoat Rust Primer converts rust and prepares metals to be primed and painted. Use it on new metal for superior paint adhesion. Its unique, phosphoric acid-based formula is thin for easy application and excellent coverage of over 500 sq ft per gallon. Use it on just about any metal in high moisture, high humidity environments. It's perfect for marine engines and trailers.
TotalBoat Rust Primer is incredibly easy to use: First, use a wire brush to remove accumulated dirt, grease, loose paint and large rust flakes. Then brush the primer on. The metal will turn black to indicate the chemical change. Let dry. Simply brush off any dried residue and the surface will be ready for primer.
Available in Quart and Gallon sizes.
- Important Safety Information: Phosphoric acid is serious stuff. It can cause serious skin burns and eye damage. Do not breathe its spray, mist, fumes, gas, or vapors. Always wear protective clothing and equipment to protect your eyes and skin when working with TotalBoat Rust Primer. This includes gloves, glasses or goggles, a respirator, and a paint suit or similar protective clothing to keep Rust Primer off your skin.

I am restoring a 1973 Harley Davidson golf cart. The chassis was very rusty, and I was afraid I would be spending days with a wire wheel to prep for paint. My brother recommended cleaning with a pressure washer and spraying Total Boat rust converter. It worked great as you can see in the pictures, and only took a few hours.

Sprayed the entire underneath of my 1977 Jimmy that's being restored, before undercoating. It did wonders on the rust on the frame and everywhere else. I just used a 16.00 insecticide sprayer from Lowes and it worked great.

I sanded all rust with a DA sander on the top of my 24 ft car hauler. Then put rust stop primer in a regular hand spray bottle and applied that way. Soaked it on good in the shade and let it sit all day. All steel is black. Next step is primer then EPDM rubber coating.

I have only just used the product on some rusted items, followed by metal primer and several coats of paint, so won't be for a couple of years to see how this treated materials hold up to some others I painted before getting the rust primer.
