VC Performance Epoxy is a two-part finish ideal for trailered or rack-stored performance powerboats and sailboats. Formerly known as VC Underwater Epoxy, it produces a hard, slick, semi-gloss white finish with special additives to make wet sanding and burnishing easy.
VC Performance's semi-gloss finish makes viewing sanded areas easier. It contains no antifouling biocide. Overcoats have a 10 minute drying time. It can left to dry indefinitely before launching. Use with 2316N thinner. Offers 200 Sq.Ft./Gal coverage when sprayed (220 Sq.Ft./Gal coverage when rolled or brushed).
Available in a Quart Kit (contains two quarts: 1 quart base & 1 quart curing agent) and a Gallon Kit (contains two gallons: 1 gallon base & 1 gallon curing agent).

APPLICATION AND USE
Preparation
BARE FIBERGLASS: Begin by scrubbing well using soap and water and a stiff brush. Rinse with fresh water. Wipe with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Wipe with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.
CLEAR EPOXY: Begin by scrubbing well using soap and water and a stiff brush. Rinse with fresh water. Wet sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Wash down with fresh water. Wipe with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.
Method Apply 3 coats of VC Performance Epoxy. VC Performance Epoxy is designed for spray application but can be applied by brush and rollers.
Hints
Mixing Mix base and curing agent thoroughly at the specified ratio. Allow 45 mins at 50 deg F/10 deg C and 30 mins above 77 deg F/25 deg C for induction.
Thinner Reducing Solvent 2316N.
Thinning Thin, if necessary, after induction.
Cleaner Bare Fiberglass - Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. Epoxy - Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.
Airless Spray Pressure: 142-170 bar/2100-2500 psi Tip Size: 0.48-0.53 mm/19-21 thou.
Conventional Spray Pressure Pot: Pressure: 3.44-4.08 bar/50-60 psi - gun pressure; 8-15 psi pot pressure. Tip Size: 1.4-1.5 mm/55-60 thou. Siphon Cup: Pressure: 3.06-4.08 bar/45-60 psi. Tip Size: 1.4-1.5 mm/55-60 thou.
Other If fairing is necessary, use Interprotect Watertite between 1st and 2nd coats of VC Performance Epoxy and then apply 3 coats of VC Performance Epoxy over the Interprotect Watertite.
Some Important Points Product temperature should be minimum 10 deg C/50 deg F and maximum 29 deg C/85 deg F. Ambient temperature should be minimum 10 deg C/50 deg F and maximum 35 deg C/95 deg F. Substrate temperature should be minimum 10 deg C/50 deg F and maximum 35 deg C/95 deg F.
Compatibility/Substrates VC Performance Epoxy can be applied to gelcoat, bare fiberglass, epoxy and properly primed metal. Apply to clean, dry, properly prepared surfaces only. VC Performance Epoxy can only be applied over two component products that are specified for underwater use. If there is any single paint (such as antifouling paint) on the surface, it must be removed and then proceed as with bare surface.
Number of Coats 3-4 as needed

Recommended DFT 3.5 mils dry

TRANSPORTATION, STORAGE AND SAFETY INFORMATION
TRANSPORTATION: VC Performance Epoxy should be kept in securely closed containers during transport and storage.
STORAGE: Exposure to air and extremes of temperature should be avoided. For the full shelf life of VC Performance Epoxy to be realized ensure that between use the container is firmly closed and the temperature is between 5 deg C/40 deg F and 35 deg C/95 deg F. Keep out of direct sunlight. Safety DISPOSAL: Container Disposal: Triple Rinse (or equivalent). Then offer for recycling or reconditioning, or puncture and dispose of in a sanitary landfill or by other procedures approved by state or local authorities. Remainders of VC Performance Epoxy cannot be disposed of through the municipal waste route or dumped without permit. Disposal of remainders must be arranged for in consultation with the authorities.

This was the only product I found readily available for refinishing our aluminum dinghy bottom. Initially primed with Total Protect Primer. Worked beautifully and so far, very robust. I'll use both next time too.

Hard like gel coat. Not high gloss, but pleasantly smooth and oddly slick. Seems durable. Don't even pretend to roll and tip this stuff, however. It will NOT lay flat on its own, even at higher temps and well-thinned with brushing solvent. I laid on 1/2 a gallon with a roller and brush then had to sand it nearly all off because of the brush marks. Since the paint is exceptionally hard this was a miserable chore. After that painful experience, I sanded with 80 grit, then 120 grit with a Dual Action sander (3M Corp). Then, I got a good HVLP sprayer and diluted the paint 20% with Interlux 2333N brushing solvent. The paint does not readily sag or drip so I laid on four relatively thick coats. This worked great. Once the paint dried and cured, it looked outstanding. There were still faint swirl marks after 3 coats, so a more thorough sanding with the 120 grit or a 220 grit final hand wet-sand might be called for. I'll be interested to see how it performs one the boat is in the water. For now, though, I'm quite pleased with this finish!

My 18' Bass Boat needed some minor repairs to the underside of the fiberglass hull. Research came up with a two part polyurethane epoxy that racing vessels used called V C Perfomance by Interlux. It provided a desired hard epoxy coating with an unexpected low coefficient of friction. The product comes in a 2 part kit in quart and gallon sizes. I ordered 1 quart size kit and then another because i needed additional coats. I was able to apply it with a roller and tipped the epoxy with a fine brush for a mirror like finish. It came out great and was worth the wait!

Really too thin for rolling or bushing was really messy to apply by brush or roller. The next time I use the product I will spray it on. I liked the finish when applied to the bottom of our boat

For those of you complaining about the difficulty you can have rolling/tipping or just brushing this product...yes it is difficult. But READ the data sheet and it is very clear this coating was designed for spray application. Dont assume all paints or coatings are applied in the same manner.

I'm sure this is a great product, but was very disappointed with my results with rolling-on and tipping with a brush. Left huge grooves and was very difficult to apply an even layer. I'm done this process many times with other paints and never had this issue. Ended up having to sand away practically everything that I put on in order to get the finish smooth.

Nothing beats the hardness of the two part mix for the bottom of a hull. I used this on the bottom of a stand up jet ski. I wanter sanded it and I now have a super smooth hull. This is a great product.
