Interlux Baltoplate Antifouling Racing Bottom Paint

Interlux VC Offshore Regatta Baltoplate Racing Finish is an antifouling bottom paint for the serious racer. This gray metallic paint offers good antifouling protection with a racing finish for use in salt water. Baltoplate can be wet sanded and burnished to a gleaming gray metallic finish for ultimate smoothness and lubricity. Use Baltoplate on fiberglass, wood and primed underwater metals (avoid using on aluminum).

APPLICATION AND USE

Preparation

BARE FIBERGLASS: Begin by scrubbing well using soap and water and a stiff brush. Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry. Degrease by wiping with a rag soaked in Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Wipe with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.

BARE WOOD: Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Clean with Special Thinner 216. Apply 1st coat thinned 10% with Interlux Special Thinner 216.

BARE METAL: Sandblast and apply 4-5 coats of Interprotect 2000E/2001E. If blasting is not possible (or if more than 2 hours has passed since blasting) sand or grind with coarse emery cloth and apply Viny-Lux Primewash 353/354 prior to Interprotect 2000E/2001E or Interprotect 3000/3001.

EPOXY COATED WOOD: Prime with Interprotect 2000E/2001E.

PREVIOUSLY ANTIFOULED SURFACE: Remove, unless it is vinyl based. Scrape and sand old vinyl coatings which are not adhering, clean and dry surface. Remove antifouling paint in poor condition with Interstrip Semi-Paste 299E.

Method Apply a minimum of 3 coats of Baltoplate.

Cleaner Bare Fiberglass - Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. Bare Wood - Special Thinner 216. Bare Metal - Interlux 353/354 Primewash Conventional Spray Pressure Pot: Pressure: 3.44-4.47 bar/50-65 psi (gun pressure); 10-15 psi (pot pressure). Tip Size: 1.8-2.2 mm/70-85 thou.

BURNISHING: After the final coat of Baltoplate has cured, wet sand with 400 grade (grit) paper, removing any imperfections in the coat. Burnish with fine bronze wool until a shiny, super smooth finish is obtained.

Some Important Points Product temperature should be minimum 10 C/50 F and maximum 29 C/85 F. Ambient temperature should be minimum 10 C/50 F and maximum 35 C/95 F. Substrate temperature should be minimum 10 C/50 F and maximum 29 C/85 F.

Compatibility/Substrates Apply to clean, dry, properly prepared surfaces only. Do not apply Baltoplate in thin coats as this will lead to a rougher surface and additional sanding. It may also lead to premature fouling. Do not apply Baltoplate over non-vinyl antifouling paints. Do not apply Baltoplate over aluminum.

TRANSPORTATION,STORAGE AND SAFETY INFORMATION

TRANSPORTATION: Baltoplate should be kept in securely closed containers during transport and storage.

STORAGE: Exposure to air and extremes of temperature should be avoided. For the full shelf life of Baltoplate to be realised ensure that between use the container is firmly closed and the temperature is between 5 C/40 F and 35 C/95 F. Keep out of direct sunlight.

DISPOSAL: Do not discard tins or pour paint into water courses, use the facilities provided. It is best to allow paints to harden before disposal.

Remainders of Baltoplate cannot be disposed of through the municipal waste route or dumped without permit. Disposal of remainders must be arranged for in consultation with the authorities.

Baltoplate contains biocides. Antifoulings should only be wet sanded. Never dry sand or burn-off old antifoulings. Spraying of antifouling paints is prohibited in Canada.
